May UPdate

Well, here we are, almost at the end of May and I’ve thought about plenty of updates I could do for the blog – but haven’t done any of them. So – maybe if I make it a monthly thing I’ll do better?

Can’t hurt to try! So – what’s new?

Cottage Country Pest Control truckThis!! This is my most exciting new thing this season! I finally bought a truck. And not only that, I got it wrapped, too. I worked with North Simcoe Signs on the design and am SO happy with how it turned out. I think it represents our focus really well – preserving cottage country, and especially our waterfront and the bees.

The truck has also made some of my work a whole lot easier. I have it set up with a large tank, and a 100 ft hose – which means a lot less carting the weight of the tanks around. It makes mosquito sprays much quicker and easier. Might need to invest in a longer hose for a few places but right now, it works quite well. I do everything I can with the hose, then finish up with a smaller sprayer.

It’s quite a bit faster, too – which is a good thing, since with all the rain we’ve been having lately, I really can’t wait two or three weeks between sprays. Everyone needs a redo already! That, of course, is the main reason that the majority of companies don’t want to use the garlic; it’s a lot more weather-dependent than using pesticides with four to six weeks of residual.

BUT that’s the cost of saving the pollinators, and it’s worth it to me. Makes me smile every time I encounter one of those big fat bumblebees. I know they’re not the important ones – they’re imports, but a heck of a lot cuter and easier to see and hear than our own species – but what does that matter? They’re happy, that means all the others probably are too.

Not finished but can’t get away with staying on the computer any longer right now; I’m being ~ROOD~ so…. later.
