MICE Contrary to what some people will tell you, mice are not inevitable in cottage country – not even in old farmhouses, cottages, trailers, or… well, whatever. Sure, they are more likely in some places than others – but you do not have to live with them, honest……[Click for More]
Our process for dealing with mice is to focus on tracing their movements and determining the potential access points (PAP) they are using – and then sealing them up. Exclusion is always our goal. Sometimes it is not possible to keep them out of crawlspaces or attics. In those cases, we focus first on ensuring that even if they get into those, they do not get free access into the living areas of your home.
And even in those cases, we rarely give up! We will keep trying to investigate, locate, and block access points until there are no more mice getting in. We use a variety of tools, including my favourite – glow-in-the-dark bait. That allows us to see trails more clearly under UV light. Often we’ll be able to figure out where to look on the inside. In some rare cases, we resort to after-dark inspections.
Do we guarantee an immediate fix to your mouse problems? Nope, sorry. My magic wand doesn’t work!
But I can guarantee that we will do our very best to figure it out. We find holes, we block them. And then – and here is where Cottage Country Pest Control stands out – we follow-up. If all is well and there’s no more problem, great, we’re done. Otherwise, we keep trying. And we will keep right on trying for as long as it takes.
RATS People tend to get a lot more upset about rats than about mice, perceptions being what they are. But rodents are rodents – you don’t want them in your home, period! ....[Click for More]
Rats have become more prevalent throughout Cottage Country in recent years. My theory is that this dates back to Covid – when the restaurants closed down, food became harder to find and less centralized. And then, of course, there was construction – while the rats were on the move anyway. In some areas, you could pretty much trace the paths they took in search of food. In Midland, for example, they went from downtown towards William St – mostly along Bay St. They seem to have split at Bay St, with some continuing on over to the waterfront, while others turned and went up William towards the highway, which, of course, allowed them to continue to expand.
Outsmarting rats involves a lot more trial & error, changing approaches, and ingenuity. Which is why we like it! Jessa & I love a challenge!

SQUIRRELS: red, black, grey, flying. Aw, come on! You know you love ’em! They’re so cute! No? Smart decision – squirrels can make a huge mess. And do all sorts of damage, including chewing holes and/or wires, which can pose a fire risk. So yes, of course, we will help get squirrels out of your house, walls, attic – whatever…. [Click for More].
The process for squirrels depends a great deal on the type (red are jerks but easily trapped; black are bigger jerks and not cooperative at time; flying are SOOOOOOOOOOOOO cute – are you sure you don’t want to keep them?! But they hang out in colonies and cause more trouble than any of the others). And also on other factors such as the structure, their access, and most importantly by far, when are they due? Or have they had babies already.
The last thing we would EVER want to do is to separate a mama squirrel from her babies – those mama squirrels are determined!! And they will destroy your home or cottage to get to them if need be. And even afterwards, just for spite, too!! I’ve seen it happen (no, I wasn’t the one that separated them; I was called to deal with the aftermath. It was crazy – every wall in this cottage had multiple angry-squirrel holes.
So – as with everything else we do – we investigate, with cameras if necessary – then come up with a plan, and tweak and evaluate as necessary. Our goal is humane removal with the least amount of upset for everyone – including your unwelcome intruders.
Raccoons – We can definitely help solve your raccoon issues.. The strategies we use depends on where the raccoon(s) are, whether there are babies yet, and the extent of the damage…. [Click for More]
Whatever we do, however, you can relax knowing that it will be humane. Our preference, of course, is to become involved before mama raccoon decides to have her babies where you don’t want them.
Which means that the sooner you call the better! It is much easier – and therefore cheaper – to prevent her from choosing your spot than to convince her to relocate later.
We can and do do that, of course. And where necessary, we’ll repair access points, as well.
