Summer Tradition

Well, we’re back from our cottage week.

And yes, we do live in a cottage year round – doesn’t matter, it is still a treat to get away for a week or so each summer. This year we rented on Kasshabog Lake, where friends of ours live (& coincidentally, manage absentee owners’ rental cottages). So lots of back and forth.

Ross’ daughter and her family joined us for a few days; my kids showed up for one, and a good time was had by all. Including the fish.

Because, for the third? fourth? cottage week in a row, now, no fishies to bring home with us. Of course, with all the company, Ross didn’t have as much time for fishing as he always hopes for – but he did get out there some, and came home fishless yet again!

At least we’re consistent 🙂

Anyway, we’re back and he’s ready to get to work again. This time of year it tends to be wasps and/or mice, but it’s not too late to get your carpenter ants treated as well.

Give us a call at 705-534-7863 or email ccpestcontrol@gmail.com . As always this year, email is more likely to get an immediate response – I can deal with those while I’m at work. For now, anyway … I guess it’s almost time for school again and then I will have a few blocks where I can’t respond… but things usually slow quite a bit up here once school starts again anyway.

Have a lovely last little bit of summer.

Spring!

So happy to look out my window and see water again! So much prettier than ice.

All kinds of ducks around, plus a few swans; geese haven’t shown up yet – so it’s about perfect.

Ross has started gearing up for another season – ordered his products, cleaned my junk out of his car, all that fun stuff.

I’m still doing the computer and phone thing for him, as much as I can – but I’m also working a few days a week at a group home in Orillia. Really do need to figure out how to update my phone message so I can be a ~little~ more informative… but email IS going to be the best way to reach us to schedule your exterior spray, carpenter ant treatment, and/or any other pest control you need.

You can reach us by phone at 705-534-7863, or email us at ccpestcontrol@gmail.com.

Hope to hear from you soon 🙂

Oopsie!

So I was showing someone our site today and noticed that I hadn’t updated since last October. My bad!! Let’s not mention that to Ross, k?

Funny thing is though, that even though I haven’t been doing much (okay, anything at all) he’s still had probably the busiest winter yet. Bedbugs, roaches and mice, oh my. And we’re seeing more rat calls as well for some reason. Rats are a PITA – way too smart… but I digress.

snowshoe pigPoor guy hasn’t even had much time for working on stained glass so far … did do a snowshoe pig though! (Doesn’t everyone need a snowshoe pig? No? Just Sue then!)  And he just finished a snowshoe old, except it’s  not yet in its snowshoe.

ANYWAY, in spite of the fact that Ross is now officially entitled to all the senior discounts, he’s still going, and we are still here to solve all your pest control problems in Tiny, Tay, Simcoe, Muskoka and beyond.

It’s a little early to be booking yet, but won’t be long before we’re gearing up for spring so here I am babbling about not much of anything so that you’ll know we are in fact still here, and so that all the search engine bots will also know it. Time for me to start posting regularly again, whether I actually have anything interesting to write about or not!

Thanks for stopping by, and if you are looking for help with a pest of some sort, do feel free to drop us an email or give us a call at 705-534-7863.  We look forward to hearing from you. Unless it’s a rat problem. We’ll still solve it for you, but we don’t actually look forward to those ones much!

Crazy weather for bugs!

Gotta love this heat!  STILL getting calls about spiders; pretty late in the season for that! Just realized something too – this is the first year in a while that we haven’t had any calls for either brown recluse or black widow spiders in Penetanguishene. That is most assuredly a good thing.

Anyway, carpenter ants seem to be slowing down now which is another good thing. They started early this year, so we did lots & lots of them all throughout Tiny, Tay, Muskoka and Simcoe.

And still only the one termite call – which has responded very well to treatment, thank goodness.

This heat can’t last TOO much longer though! Soon it will be time to book Ross to come out and refill/replace mouse baits, and/or to tackle any bat problems. Sure wish someone would call up for some bat houses sooner rather than later !! He’s left them sitting right where I planted morning glories; just happened to notice a few determined little flowers poking up from behind the blasted thing. THEY need to move!  Wouldn’t you like a nice seasoned bat house? I’m sure you would 🙂

If you are calling us this time of year, please do leave a message if need be and either Ross or I will get back to you as soon as we’re able…. my teaching schedule this semester is NOT ideal – have to drive down to Barrie 4 days each week for 2 or 3 hours each day. They can and will do better when I whine – but I save that for the Winter semester when I really REALLY don’t want to drive 2 hours for a 2 hour class every darn day. If I take what I’m given in the Fall semester, usually get what I want in Winter. Here’s hoping!   It does mean that I’m often not here to answer the phone right away though – but Ross will check & return messages if/when he stops in, and if he doesn’t, I will get to them as soon as I get home.

Carpenter ants!

Carpenter antsMy goodness, have we ever become inundated with carpenter ants. We are getting SO many calls from throughout Tay and Tiny Townships. They started early this year, and so many of them, we’ve been having a hard time keeping enough product in stock to treat them.

Could be worse though – from what I’ve been reading, some areas are starting to see increasing numbers of termites. We have never had a single call for those – and would rather like to keep it that way!  While both carpenter ants and termites can do a great deal of damage to a home or cottage, termites tend to do it faster – we can do without that!

Just because they’re slower, doesn’t mean you should ignore carpenter ants though! In addition to the structural damage they can do, and the very annoying noise they can make if you leave them untreated long enough, you just might find your cottage poked full of holes. Woodpeckers just love carpenter ants – and they can and will do a lot of

Woodpeckers are ~cute~ …sometimes!

damage very quickly once they discover them.

And of course, just like most everything else, it’s usually easier – and cheaper – to solve problems when they’re small. Do you suspect you have carpenter ants? Ross will be happy to help you with those – before the woodpeckers show up 🙂

Give us a call at 705-534-7863, or email me at ccpestcontrol@gmail.com. Or you can click on the quote form up there and get a guesstimate that way, too.

Have a great day!

Spring in Cottage Country!

Victoria Harbour ON

Kali and Aswell help He build docks

The lake is open, the ice is gone, and Ross has already started mucking around with pieces of dock. Some of it suffered damage and is going to need quite a bit of repair, apparently.  Trying to get that done before he gets so busy he doesn’t have time to do it.

We are already starting to get a fair number of calls and emails though – carpenter ants, already – and people wanting to know when we’ll start spraying for spiders. The answer to that is pretty weather dependent but every time I ask Ross, he says probably “mid-May”

I’ve started a folder for people who want to be among the first to be sprayed already though – so if you already know you’re going to want him, feel free to give me a call (705-534-7863) or email us at ccpestcontrol@gmail.com and I will be happy to add you.

Looking forward to hearing from you! Have a great spring 🙂

Weather Watch

Wish it would just RAIN already!!! This constant feels-like-it’s-gonna-but-doesn’t is aggravating. Do I send him to Tiny, first, or Parry Sound?  Constantly checking weather apps these days; too bad they hardly ever agree! I keep thinking I maybe don’t need to water my garden because it feels like it’s going to rain – but then it doesn’t; at least not here. It should rain already!!! And then stop so we can get on with our day.

Fortunately we do have some work that can be done even in the rain  – indoor stuff like fleas and mice, anyway. Never had SO many mice calls through the summer as we do this year -usually that’s a winter thing. Not many bedbugs in cottage country this year though; that’s a plus … well, for you guys, not so much for us 😉

If you have pest problems of any sort – well, aside from those you brought into the world yourself – please do give us a call at 705-534-7863, or email me at ccpestcontrol@gmail.com and I’ll be happy to book a time for Ross to come and solve them for you.

Pappy Days

Pappy DaysSo… Pappy’s still pretty busy most days – but he is finding a bit of time here and there to spend with the grandkids.

This week, we had them for Tuesday & Wednesday. I work Tuesday mornings, so Pappy & the boys got the Airhead tow thing blown up and ready for me to take them out on it in the afternoon while he was off killing things.

He had to work all day Wednesday too. I sure don’t envy him hanging out outside in this heat – even less so when he’s working in attics or crawlspaces. Or worst of all, on roofs.

I felt bad, honest – all day, while the kids and I hung around in the air conditioning watching Netflix and playing games and collecting Pokémon.

Not ~quite~ sorry enough to stop booking him to keep going out to solve your pest problems though, of course!

Got ants? Or spiders? Or any other creepy crawlies you don’t like? Give me a call at 705-534-7863 or email me at ccpestcontrol@gmail.com and I’ll send him your way.

Ross’ boat

Ross' boat

June 10 and it’s still in the yard! And filling up with tree gunk too.

Well, we’re off to a very busy start this season.

So busy, in fact, that Ross’ boat is still sitting in the yard. He had time to remove the tarps. And he’s got it serviced.

And – well, since then, he’s been on lots & lots of other people’s boats. That should count for something right?

This week has been all about the Honey Harbour area. Lots of carpenter ants, mice and of course spider sprays. Have had him up there several days already, and today he’s out with Big Red Works all day. That works great – they run him around so that he can fit a whole lot more into one day by skipping the time spent waiting at marinas.

Already got more island calls set up for next week as well, both in Honey Harbour and the Parry Sound area. Oh yeah, and Mactier. Haven’t heard much from Go Home Lake cottagers yet. Hmm… maybe they don’t like us any more?!  Or maybe they’ve just been spared the invasion of the carpenter ants, I don’t know.

Anyway, given how busy we are, and the fact that it doesn’t seem like he’s going to have time to get our boat in the water any time soon, I guess I won’t complain. Too much!

If you’re having problems with birds, carpenter ants, mice, spiders, etc etc, do give us a call or email us and we’ll do our best to fit you in somewhere. Even though we’re hopping, we’re still managing to get to most within a day or two. On land, anyway.

Answering the phone at Cottage Country Pest Control

Thanks for stopping by 🙂

Just so’s you know, Cottage Country Pest Control is basically just Ross & I…. run from our home in Victoria Harbour. We do a pretty good job of making sure our phone gets answered when we can BUT I do teach in Barrie on Tuesdays and Thursdays, so if you’re looking for a quicker response then, email is often the way to go.

And THIS weekend, May 13 – 15, I need to go help my kids move to their new place in Oshawa, so …. yeah…. email is, again, the most likely to get the quickest response.

Of course, you can always leave a message on the phone and we will get back to you as soon as we can.
